One Tough Cat

No, no…Beany’s not dead. He looks like it…but he’s just sleeping. Would you believe that this ancient kitty actually has a dislocated hip? Yeah, kinda gross, I know. He limps along without putting too much weight on it, but oddly enough he doesn’t act like it is causing him any pain. In fact, he even runs around and goes up and down the stairs…just on three feet instead of four. The doctor can’t fix it because cat hips aren’t like human hips–they can’t just be popped back in. So he has to just go slow and let the ligaments heal. Oh, and somebody asked me the other day–just how old this guy is anyway.

I’ll put it like this~ we have a picture of the Bald Kid—with a baby bottle in his mouth–holding Beany’s sister Squeeker as a kitten.

The Bald Kid turns 21…

tomorrow.

That would make old Beany-boy 96 in cat years.

Yeah, I think we’ll just let him sleep…right there…on the floor.

You’ve gotta be nice to old folks.

  1. Oh no! do you know how he dislocated his hip? I know a broken pelvis takes 6 weeks to heal. We have lived thru that with one of our kitties. you can give him arnica in his water, and/or carbo veg to oxygenate his body to speed healing. I’m sending him lots of head rubs.

  2. No, we have no idea. The consensus is that he must have fallen off the wall or from someplace rather than being hit by a car because he doesn’t have any other injuries. He went out and in ten minutes Nate was carrying him back in because he saw him limping. I didn’t think about arnica though, thanks. I’ll give it to him.
    They say we should be keeping him in a kennel for a month–but he’d kill himself trying to get out. We know that. So, perhaps he’ll just have a limp from now on. The only thing they can do is surgery to pin the bone back into the socket. Costs about $3000. Vet says they just heal and walk a little funny without the surgery. He refuses to stay down so we figure that’s how it’ll have to go. 😕

  3. Cats always have a way of hiding pain and just being awesome all the time. and I think it gives them a longer life! Not only that, its been scientifically proven that a cat’s purr has healing properties. Lesson? Spend more time enjoying life, no matter how much things suck, and just focus on getting better!

  5. Oh sure, they say a cat’s purr operates on a frequency that heals illnesses, mends bone and even resists cancer! Dogs get cancer but cats don’t. They are doing lots of research on it and some hospitals even use frequency machines for clients who are interested. I learned all this when I was doing research on how water holds frequencies. The idea went like this: Water takes frequencies and forms itself to it. We know this because we can introduce a frequency or vibration to water, freeze it and see pictures of either beautiful crystals or formless blobs. Then you add the fact that our bodies are formed mostly of water. Ever hear “You are what you eat”? more accurate would be that you take on the frequencies that are around and within you. Hence the healing power of a purring vibration! Hope thats not TMI but I find it fascinating! ^_^

  9. Absolutely, I’ll never forget because it was hot and you were – well shall we say, obviously with child 🙂 It was the area just north of the carport in the front yard. I was really impressed that getting those weeds out was such a priority to you. You’ve always liked a yard with flowers that were just so and of course that sweet ol’ cat of yours. Glad you’re still taking care of each other.

  11. Oh, dude–I know! Some days I can barely sit on the floor, never-mind sleep on it. He still just follows me and sleeps wherever I am. If I’m on the computer he’s in the chair next to me or on the floor RIGHT behind me. I’ve nearly run him over a million times because he does that. I stood on the stairs talking to Lyndi the other day and he came and laid on the very next step down, and I didn’t see him. To keep from stepping right on his middle I threw my leg sideways and went down the stairs very fast, in a very uncomfortable way…so to speak.

    The bald kid wrote this Sunday–“Please pet Beanie and Jiffy for me and help Bean hold on at least until I get to hold him again :)” Isn’t that so cute?

  13. Yeah…that dude’s been around forever. And all but one of his siblings were Siamese Manx (no tail) kitties. We kept him because he was the oddball and sold the rest. Being the strange one made him fit in perfectly around here. heh, heh.
