Strawberry Days Esports Competition

Oh, yeaaaah–I’m pretty proud of these kids! They all entered the ESports competition for Strawberry Days in Pleasant Grove. Such brave souls. I was way too chicken–but I did come to watch.

Jillian, Lyndi and Rhen all entered the Dr. Mario tournament.

They played through the rounds and got pretty far.  At one point there were people standing outside the school windows so that they could see the screens!

Some guy came over by me and started complaining about all the people that had beat him. I sheepishly said, “Yeah, that’s my daughter,” and “That’s my other daughter,” and “That’s my son.” All he said in return was, “Wow.”

I swear, I tried to keep a straight face. We will not discuss how well it worked.

Our boy entered the Smash Bros tournament because it’s his particular specialty. Watch out everybody else!

Rhen and this fellow got to the finals…

but of course…

there can be only one winner!!

No surprise to me who that was!

Congratulations Rhen!!!

But wait!! Right after that–we had another winner in the Smash Bros category!! Congratulations boy!!

I taught them everything they know.

BAHAHAHAhahahahaha!

What a fun time.

Hanging out with winners!

Heh, heh.

Patriot Puzzle

Ohhhhh my goodness…did I ever love this one!!

Yessss, it had letters on the back that just encouraged me to be a big cheater.

But July is coming up fast so that became my excuse…

to not dilly-dally around.

Come on…

admit it.

Isn’t this the coolest 4th of July puzzle you’ve ever SEEN?!

Good-bye, Again

And just when we thought we had them, for real this time…they’re off again. Dane will be attending school in Arkansas for a year and then going wherever the job market takes him. I know he needs to do this, but that only helps my heart a tiny bit.

I’d love to dream that something, someday would bring them back here, to stay.  But, honestly, I don’t know if anything ever really will. They love traveling and having adventures and being in new places all the time. I think we must just be too sedate for these little nomads. *sigh*

I’ll miss them more than they will ever know.

I’ll miss all the hugs

and the impromptu drop ins

and the lending books

and the dinner invites

and that cute face looking in my door window

and the Mr Grinch parties

and those lovely whiskers

and putting special candy in the treat jar

and going to summer booths

and the little shy smiles

and…

and…

and…

*sigh* again.

Believe it or not, this is me…

being brave.

Boredom Buster Hotpads

My mom made a potholder for me with a pattern like this and it has always intrigued me. Because I have loads of cotton yarn, once I found the pattern, I decided to try it.

It really is the perfect project to make while you’re listening to a podcast or audio book–which I do a TON–and you still want to keep your hands busy.  It’s made all in one piece in a continuous round. Watch the video and you’ll get it real fast.

One Piece Potholder

This is a great one for the Present Box–if you have one of those.

I used a 5mm or H hook–because I like it.

Go forth and crochet away!!
