“That One Chick’s” Giveaway

Our cute friend Kali fromĀ  “I Love You Everyday” blog is doing a sweet little giveaway and invited us to play along.

Here’s what SHE said about it…

“Everyday for the month of February, I will post something random about myself. Some may be long stories, some small facts, funny or sad or boring. I’m putting myself out there. Wanna join? Make a comment on any of my posts with one of YOUR random facts that somehow relates to mine. I’ll enter you in a drawing for every comment you make. Yes, that means you could be entered 28 times (if you are clever enough to find something we have in common every single day). I’ll draw the winner on March 1st and then send you a package of love from Boston, filled with some of my favorite things.

“How fun would it be if you hosted the same giveaway on your blog too? We would have a whole blog-o-sphere of random, somehow related facts floating around– and more packages for everyone! Feel free to copy and paste this post to your blog with a link to mine.”

So just because it sounds really fun–we’re going to do it too–starting today–and see where we land. Since I already do a daily blog, every few days in February– I’ll post a random fact about “that one chick” (me), and you can make a comment that somehow relates to it–even vaguely–about yourself. Each comment will earn you one entry to the Gracious Rain “That One Chick’s” Giveaway. I’ll start assembling the prizes right this minute–and tell you about it soon. It’ll be cool–you can count on that!

So get ready to chat it up!

We’ll post the winner on March 1, 2010 at 10 am

“That One Chick” Fact #1

For my seventh birthday, I got a scary looking doll called “Little Miss No Name.” Seriously, she was supposed to be something like the Little Match Girl only really awful looking. I asked for her after seeing a commercial for her that made me cry. I knew no one else would ever want her so I wanted her.

She’s always scared my kids. Believe it or not, I still have her and she is still as…interesting…as ever.

Magic String…

Remember this pretty stuff that we found for $1 last year at JoAnn’s? I’m always amazed at how a silly piece of string can magically transform into something soft and warm…

The green and pink were used to make the baby lambys–yeah, that’s how I spell it–a while back. Remember?

Well, the grey and the gold have worked up nicely…

into toboggan hats for our Lily and Beckham…

and the pink one is for the Chompy–so soft and sweet.

And all from a silly piece of string.

Oh, and happy Groundhog’s day!!

Honey Candy

Look how pretty this is—Honey Candy–for your…Honey.

It tastes so good and I’ve even been told that it makes a lovely, soothing throat drop. I’m a bit more interested in it as a candy, because, well–it’s just the kinda girl I am.

But to each his own.

HONEY CANDY

2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. honey
1/4 c. butter

Put all the ingredients in heavy pan and cook over medium heat until it reaches the *hard crack stage. Pour into a buttered cookie sheet. Fold edges of candy into middle until cool enough to pull. Pull and cut it into one inch pieces or roll in balls. Put on a greased cookie sheet. You can leave it there–or you can twist each piece in wax paper or cellophane.

I’d suggest that you wrap it if you want to carry a few pieces in your purse…

but you decide.

Allllll Alone…

When you live in the house with a sweet baby Chompy and everyone goes away for the day…

you might think it would be peaceful and perfect.

But I’m telling you, it’s just quiet and weird.

There’s nobody sitting in the chair dropping their lunch on the floor.

There’s nobody poking this grumpy kitty.

There’s nobody calling me on the phone.

There’s no baby bear sleeping in this just right bed.

There’s nobody sitting in a barrel counting eggs.

There’s nobody doing the shopping…

or bringing home donuts…

or feeding the birds.

The princess is singing all by herself…

and there are no gates to scale…anywhere.

And I’m just sitting here…waiting…

for them all to come back.

Because when you live in a house with a sweet baby Chompy…

it’s just quiet and weird…

and peaceful’s not so perfect.
