A few weeks ago, I was invited up to the KSL tv studios. Luckily, Lyndi and Mr. Magoo came along, because I’m not particularly fond of big, huge adventures…by myself. And this proved to be a pretty big, huge adventure–indeed.
We got lost and so by the time we got to the right building, most of the people were already gone. But still they had piles and stacks of lovely food for us.
This was the closest that I’ve ever gotten to a real, live television camera, but they were turned off so it wasn’t too scary.
The TV people did have me stand between these two boards so they could take my picture…holding…(ahem)…the award they gave me. It was so sweet of them. In fact, I never posted about it because I was just waiting for the picture to come in the mail…like they said it would. But I haven’t seen it yet so you’ll have to just imagine me standing there trying to look very, very young and thin. It was a bit of a struggle. :}
This will have to do.
PS– Thank you to everyone who voted for Gracious Rain…it was very kind of you and made me smile positively for days.
On our last trip to the local Farmer’s Market in Provo, we met this lovely fellow. His name is John Jackson, but I’m just going to call him the Doll House Man. For the last 6 or 7 years this cute guy has been making the doll houses of every girl’s dreams. He actually reminded me of my sweet daddy, only instead of making cakes–he makes furniture and houses for little folks.
Miss Chompy could not take her eyes off the lavender one with all it’s pretty little tables and chairs and hutches and bunkbeds…
and couches and love seats. I was amazed at how sturdy and solid every piece was. For me, there’s just something about hand made toys that tugs at my heart. It feels like some sort of connection to something bigger just to hold them in my hands.
Chompy particularly loved this rocking chair…so we sort of, kind of, you know…bought it. Oh, it was just too cute to leave behind. Besides, it was just the perfect size for her Strawberry Shortcake dolly back home.
It was all so pretty. I mean– just look at the sweet little shutters on every window.
I really loved the idea of the drawers at the bottom of the house too. That’s right, keep all those dolly clothes up off the floor! That makes mommas very happy.
Now you know that I rarely say the words “you should get this” on my blog. Well, sometimes about yarn…and maybe Cheetoes…but that can’t be helped. I would never want to make my friends crazy with ads and things, but, when we met Mr. Jackson, I was so impressed with his sturdy, beautiful doll houses that I kept thinking, “my children’s grandchildren would be able to play with this.” No lie.
So, if you have a little sweetheart that would love to find something like this under her Christmas Tree, I hope you’ll give Mr. Jackson a call. He is adorable and if you’re anything like us–you’ll love him…and his pretty little doll houses. :}
It’s been a hundred years since I’ve posted anything about my sweet little Bald Kid. He’s still busy and hard at work in…Siberia. In fact, I found this picture on another missionary’s family website. She was taking a picture of the “leaders who came to teach them some new language skills,” and there was my boy, right at the front of the room. And to think, he use to be so shy!
He sent us this one to remind us all to be so grateful for our clean water. The nasty yellow and grey filters on the counter behind my boy are the old ones. They are suppose to be white…but they’re not. Blaugh! Thank you America for our clean water. :}
Next, he was trying very hard to impress us with his cooking skills. Apparently, he had made the Cheesy Egg Bake–as seen by the guy in the back eating it with his bare hands. Tacky boys, tacky. He also made our special recipe Fruit Salad which is on the table in the back. Good, good…eat your fruit.
This one is some Ninja smorgasbord–not sure what that’s about–but he made Fruit Crepes and our Cheesy Lasagna. And again the guy on the right is eating it with his hands. How can I complain when MY boy seems to be having Snickers bars for supper? Sheesh. But seriously, who eats lasagna with their hands?!
And lastly, still keeping with our sort of food theme, we have here an Elder Sandwich. I don’t have the recipe for that, but obviously all it takes is some crazy boys forgetting how to make a bed and this is what happens. :}
Ooooh, I miss this fellow. He says, however that he’s “having the time of his life and wouldn’t trade this experience for the world.”
What more could a mother want?
Well, other than to have the next 6 months go very, very quickly I mean.
“The Creation, great as it is, is not an end in itself but a means to an end. We come to the earth for a brief period of time, endure our tests and trials, and prepare to move onward and upward to a glorious homecoming. Our thoughts and deeds while here will surely be more purposeful if we understand God’s plan and are thankful for and obedient to His commandments.
As beneficiaries of the divine Creation, what shall we do? We should care for the earth, be wise stewards over it, and preserve it for future generations. And we are to love and care for one another.”
