Real People
When I was 12 years old my friend bought me a ticket to my very first concert, for my birthday. It was to see the Osmonds at the Forum in Los Angeles. In those days, she and I had our bedroom walls covered with posters of Donny and his brothers. So when the lights started flashing and the guys finally ran out on stage, I frantically held my little Kodak camera up in the air and clicked the button…about a hundred times. Before the first song ended I’d used up all 36 exposures of film and had no more. While all the girls jumped around screaming, I sat down holding my useless camera and started to cry. My friend Debbie shouted, “What are you doing?! You’re not suppose to cry, you’re suppose to SCREAM!”
So we did. And it was the most fun I’d had in my whole life. I gave a talk in church the next day and was so horse that I sounded like a man instead of a silly 12 year old who was madly in love with Donny Osmond.
Who knew that some day I’d live in Utah and meet them all because they live and breathe and play and shop at Target and go to church and buy groceries…just like the rest of us. They are very kind, lovely people, and sometimes it’s really good to see people up close.
My Poor Kitty
So, do you remember me telling you weeks ago that we thought Beany had a dislocated hip and there was really nothing we could do?
Well the other day, I was looking at his foot because all of a sudden he started walking really weird, not just with a slight limp, but like he couldn’t bend his foot–at all.
On closer inspection, and to my horror, the top of his foot was swollen up like a golf ball. We got him in to our vet, Dr. Degering as quickly as we could. In fact, I couldn’t even find the cat carrier to take him in so I just held the poor guy on my lap. I thought at first that he would go nuts, but he just sat there and let me hold him. I think sometimes animals just know when we really are trying to help them.
Anyway, Dr. Degering examined him thoroughly and said his hip was fine. At first he thought that Beany must certainly have cancer of the bone, but after an x-ray he found that his leg had actually been broken clear back when I thought he had hurt his hip. Yeah…I feel like such a schmuck. My poor kitty. The doctor thinks that he has a bone infection (Jenny–HELP!!) and that he’ll need to be on anti-biotics for about 10 days. After that he wants to see him again and figure out what to do next. He said part of the bone is deteriorated and a new piece is growing back. Sad…sad.
Trust me, I’ve learned my lesson. I solemnly swear that I will never try to diagnose a very brave, very dear cat’s injuries–ever again. Ever. As long as I live.
And now we wait, while I try to figure out how to give a syringe full of medicine to a street savvy cat…
and hope he forgives me someday.
The Witches Breakfast
Ah, yes. The “witch is in,” indeed. Hee, hee.
Last week, we took the kids up to Gardner Village–all dressed in Halloween garb–for the annual Witch’s Breakfast. Here we have Miss Lily the mermaid…
and Sir Beckham the king’s knight.
The place was decorated with pumpkins and ghouls…
and…um…witches…
and more pumpkins.
We walked around for awhile to take it all in until we were greeted by–
this candy corn witch. I’m sure that wasn’t her name…
but it easily could have been.
I loved her highly edible hat too.
We stepped into the dining room…
and went through the breakfast buffet line for our fabulously scrumptious food. YUM!!
We enjoyed the food and the entertainment–
singing and dancing witches who came right to our table.
and signed autographs.
And then again, there was the food.
and the witches…
and Batman…
who, of course makes everything perfect.

Things I’m Loving…
right this minute…
Pumpkins! They’re everywhere and I adore them. Normally, we have a bunch in our garden, and then on our porch, but our garden this year…now there’s a sad story. So I deeply appreciate all the folks who are stepping up and decorating the town with those lovely, autumn pumpkins. I’m sure they’re doing it just for me. Heh, heh.
Seeing that sweet little friends can easily turn into family. I can’t wait to see all these pretty kids in 10 years!
Collecting fun stuff for our next big movie party that I’m not allowed to advertise.
Email me if you’d like the details. :}
Pretty little knotted bracelets for the same event. Hundreds and hundreds of them.
Watching handsome old Tom Brady play a great game of football, even if they…
didn’t…
win.
Finding another picture of my “dream house” and wondering if it only exists on a Thomas Kincade calendar page.
A little dude with some new toothies to go with that fabulous naturally pokey hair.
Reorganizing my cotton yarn stash so that every time I walk past, it makes me smile. :}
A new pile of Autumn books to read to the kiddos, from Scholastic Book orders. Those papers are soooo dangerous in my hands. Seriously, how can anyone resist all these cool books?
Finding the perfect place for a pile of acorns that we found at the park.
Oh, I just LOVE this time of year.
Don’t you?
