Ok, I’m being very brave now. I’ve decided to show you the project we’ve been working on for the past year or so. This is a handbag made entirely from plastic shopping bags.
So how green is that?
This particular one is made from the silvery white bags with green writing on them. It has a pearly sheen to it and with the green–well, it turned out really pretty.
We call it the Water Lily BagBag. Besides being made from “repurposed” grocery bags, it’s amazingly strong and durable, and get this–it is washer and dryer safe!
These are the company tags we had carved from coconut shells.
We’ve madeΒ quite a few more–each one with totally different colors–in four sizes. I’ll put them on here one at a time so you can see them up close.
I’m working on setting up an Etsy shop so–
–please let me know what you think…
It will make me brave.
I’ve told you before, but I LOVE these!! Neil and I have a whole giant slew of bags for you! We need to come fill our water – things have just been incredibly crazy! I had to go back to work temporarily, so Neil’s home with little Avery and just hasn’t had time to fill up. I miss the water though!! My parents are contemplating getting a machine! Never thought I’d see the day that they thought ANYTHING we do would be beneficial! π
AWESOME BLOSSOM FOR SURE!! Those little tags are the perfect little touch.
Wahoo for Etsy! That just makes me happy that you’re doing that. These are so beautiful! And I agree that the coconut tags really do make such a difference. Guess you do like coconut after all Mom π
Oh, and I love the angles you took on those pictures. They look perfect that way!
WOW! That is AWESOME. I love it! So cool that they’re machine washable.
I have to ask…because I think I would actually buy one and have to know…do they make scrunchy noises like a bunch of plastic together would normally do? (Does that make sense? Scrunchy noises?)
And how did you make them? Crochet???
Nope, no scrunchy noises because the plastic is bunched together and then crocheted. So–quiet bags…yes. In fact, most of them–depending on exactly what bags we use–are soft and almost elegant. Some made out of the heavier bags have more of a sturdy feel to them. I’ve been using mine for a year and a half now and it’s as good as new. I’ve washed it 6 or 8 times.
Well let us all know when they’re up for sale in your Etsy store!!!
YAHOO!!! I’m glad you’re finally telling people about these!!! They are sooo great… and that’s coming from the girl who has tried to void purses at all costs. I suppose I’ve been waiting for these! π You are sooo great! π Good work Mom!
I’m so proud of you – way to be brave. For those of you wondering about the texture etc. I’ve held several of them and most of them could even be described as soft. They are beautiful, durable and so cool looking!
