A Mum For Mom

Here’s a real quick and easy gift–we’re talking under an hour, start to finish–to make for the Moms in your world.

I saw it on the  Creative Jewish Mom blog. The pattern is there too, so that makes it even easier.

Just think how happy mom…or sister…or daughter…or Aunt Mabel will be when at last, at last they have a rational place to keep the safety pins.

They will thank you for making their life complete. What a gift!

Beat that.

Mother’s Day Coupon Book

What you’ll need:

  • ½ sheet cardstock
  • 2 paper fasteners or stapler
  • Hole punch or sharpened pencil
  • Paper cutter
  • Stickers, foam stickers, markers, or anything else you would like to decorate with
  • Patterns

How to make it:

  1. Print out our coupon patterns, as many as you like.
  2. Fill in the blanks on any of the coupons that are not filled out.
  3. Use a paper cutter or scissors to cut out the coupons.
  4. Use a pencil to sketch around a coupon onto the cardstock, about 1/2″ larger than the coupon.
  5. Cut the cardstock using the sketched line as a guide, cut two pieces for the cover and the back.
  6. Use a hole punch or a sharpened pencil to poke holes in the coupons and the cardstock and assemble with the paper fasteners. Or you can simply staple the booklet together.
  7. Decorate the front cover with markers, stickers, foam stickers, or whatever else you like.

And there you have it!

A kid friendly gift for the mom.

PS~ You know…it’s not a bad idea to fill out the blank coupons yourself (mom) and hand out the booklets for the kids to “give back” to you.

How’s that for choosing your own present!

Chicken Crumble

This is one of those meals that can really be “thrown together,” and some of the ingredients can be substituted out for other things. An easy going wonder dish–if you ask me.

The ingredients are things that you may already have on hand. After you taste this, you’ll most likely keep most of this on hand. You’ll notice that I don’t have amounts for most of the items–that my dears, is because you make however much you want or need–or however much you have the ingredients for.

Chicken Crumble

Ingredients:

Chicken breasts–boneless, skinless works well

American Cheese slices–you can use other kinds, sliced or shredded, but American melts and blends the best.

Alfredo Sauce–you can also use a can of Cream of Chicken or Cream of Mushroom Soup–undiluted

Seasoned Stuffing–I like the crumbles best, not the cubed kind

Arrange your chicken in a glass Pyrex dish. Sprinkle salt, pepper, and a pinch of seasoning salt on–if you’d like.

Cover the chicken with cheese.

Pour sauce or soup over the top. One jar of sauce or 1-2 cans of soup should do it.

Sprinkle the crumbs over the top until everything is covered up. There’s really not a right and wrong to this.

Cover with a sheet of foil–shiny side down. Pinch the edges tightly to “seal” it well.

Bake at 350 for about 35 minutes or until meat is done. You can check by slicing a piece in the middle and making sure it’s not at all pink. If it is–put it back in for about 10 more minutes and check again.

If you are using frozen chicken, bake at 325 for about an hour. Check for done-ness. Did I just make that word up?

Once the chicken is cooked take the foil off, turn off the oven and leave it in for about 10 minutes. Just long enough to make a cute little salad or some green beans…or something. When the top is brown and toasty–it’s finished.

Hope you love it.

Pretty darn sure you will.

Here Birdy-birdy-birdy

If you look verrrry closely, you’ll see our baby bird, signing her version of the word…

birdy.

She can’t help herself because you see–each day, more and more of our birds come back.

We can see them jostling for the seeds in the feeder.

We can watch them sitting on the deck rail all puffy feathered in the rain.

We can hear them cooing and singing us awake each morning.

And friends, we are very, very happy about it, because we’ve been waiting for a long time…

all of us.

And so Jiff is now banned to the basement until she learns better manners.

After all, we have guests.

Happy National Bird Day everyone!

Happy Birthday Kristen!
