The First Day of Fall

Bibs 055

Happy Autumn Everyone!

Can you feel it? That crispy nip that’s slowly creeping into the evening air. The colors of the yard slipping over to the deeper greens and browns and oranges. The need for longer sleeves and socks as the sun goes down. Leaves and apples and football. Hmmmmm…delicious.

September 22nd is the official “First Day of Fall” and our very favorite time of year. To celebrate we will be hosting an “Autumn Week of Winners” with a giveaway a day (except Sunday) beginning tomorrow–Wednesday, September 23, 2009 and ending Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Just think–seven prizes that you’ll reeeally want to win. No, really.

The giveaway prizes will help get this lovely holiday season off to a warm and cozy start–free stuff is always a good thing!

Stay tuned—you’re really going to LOVE this!

Dang Fine Salsa

Sept. 20 093

Not too hot, not too wussy–this salsa tastes lovely the day you make it and even better once the flavors have mellowed. So perfect for chips or soup or for topping your favorite spicy meals. Beats anything else I can think of to do will all those tomatoes from the garden.

Ingredients

5 lbs. tomatoes, peeled, skinned and processed until chunky (or chop by hand)
1 cup diced peppers– a combination of seeded jalapenos and peeled, seeded mild long green chilies.  Some chopped bell pepper may be added also.
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 onion, chopped
1 tsp. sugar
bottled lemon juice

Sept. 20 028

He Is Listening

“Don’t worry about your clumsily expressed feelings. Just talk to your compassionate, understanding Father. You are His precious child whom He loves perfectly and wants to help. As you pray, recognize that Father in Heaven is near and He is listening.”

“…find out what it means to me…”

4-2-2009 003

The bald kid keeps asking me to please stop putting pictures of him on my blog–but I keep doing it anyway.

He says, “It’s a lack of respect.”

I’ve been asking the bald kid to please stop burping out loud and in public since he was three and a half–but he keeps doing it anyway.

I say, “We’re even.”

At one picture for every burp–I figure, if he stopped tomorrow I’d still have about 645,000 pictures to post before I’d have to quit.

Dreadful, universal lack of respect going on around here–wouldn’t you say?

Oh, power–and how it corrupts.

Fishy Feet

Florida 155

When you see water this still and lovely I swear it feels like a hypnotic force pulls you closer…

Florida 151

and closer until you are able to step up to the edge…

and jump right in.

The water was so clear that we could easily see the bottom.

Then, to my surprise a little spotted fish showed up.  He wasn’t a bit scared of us.

Then his wife came around a corner. They were kinda cute. That is, until they headed right towards me. Wait, is that teeth I see?!

My earlier visions of sharks and alligators and barracudas flew back, along with a new one…piranha!

Look I know that some of you probably don’t get my little phobia here, but many people raised in California aren’t fond of ocean things moving around their feet. That’s because it is usually jellyfish. Oh, and pesky sea weed that pretends it’s a jellyfish–you know, just to scare the heck out of you, because that would be funny, somehow.

I’m not a fan of jellyfish. They sting you know. Think “Spongebob.” Think “Finding Nemo.” Think “Seven Pounds.”

Jellyfish are completely uncool—especially around your feet.

But I digress.

While it is quite likely that this little fellow and his woman are completely harmless—who cares? I’m not waiting around to find out what innocent looking fish like to nibble on in their spare time. They just can’t be trusted.

That, my friends, is my fast feet, high tailing it outta there.

As it should be.
