Holiday TV Guide

Scan10060

Back in ancient times–during the holidays, every kid scoured the TV Guide and highlighted the Christmas Specials so that he could plan his evening schedule accordingly. Because in those days, long before videos or DVDs or Cable TV with 10 billion channels, or TiVo–if you missed the one night of the year that “A Charlie Brown Christmas” or “The Grinch” came on TV, well…you would be a pitiable creature indeed. And, oh–you wouldn’t get another shot at it for…a…whole…year.

Gulp.

The next day, you would sit alone at recess while your friends ran around reliving each festive scene and reciting every single “That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown,” line–sparkly lights and tinsel included. But you–you sad, sorry thing–you would sit quietly in shame without uttering a word, because YOU, unforgivably…had missed it.

Noo. No. It’s not a risk most kids would ever take.

Not for a bucket of cold, hard, cash.

But these days, you get lots of chances to see most of the good shows, and too many chances to see all of the lame shows–but either way, it’s nice to know what is playing when. With that said, here is a current list–starting today of anything even remotely related to Christmas. I even found an old favorite that I haven’t seen in a million years. Wahoo!

If you’re a Christmas TV Special Fan, and in honorary observance of “World Television Day”—I hope you love this!

Oh, and I’ll post this in the Holiday tab as well so you’ll be able to find it easier as it gets closer to Christmas.

But since 4am is really an interesting time to crawl into bed–when you read this, I’ll probably still be snuggled up somewhere…sleeping.

Carry on without me.

ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz………

A New Moon!!

new-moon

Oh, we’ve been waiting alright.

Perhaps you’ve even noticed the countdown calendar to the right of this page.

And now…our waiting is just about over…

One year ago we gathered the crew and went to the midnight opening of  “Twilight.” Of course, we had a wonderful time–being the silly,  yellow personality people that some of us are.

August 20 092

Now–tonight, in fact–we’ll be doing it again for the second installment in the series–“New Moon.”  To say that we are WILD with excitement is putting it mildly…

August 20 088

We–the Gracious Rain group have an entire row reserved in the theater so that we can just be our ridiculous selves. There will be giveaways, drawings and random prizes in the theater–not to mention the amazing loot bags that we’ve been putting together for the last month now. I’ll have to show you that in a couple of days–or it will spoil the surprise for the group.

I wish you all were coming with us.

Just think of the fun we’d have with the whole theater to ourselves!

Good goal for the next movie…

Personal Pilgrim Placecards

Awwww….Wouldn’t you just love some cute little pilgrims–like this, on your own Thanksgiving table?

Or maybe you’d prefer–a handsome devil like this? Trust me…it’s simple. All you have to do is:

Print out the pattern–at the bottom of the page and cut out the pieces.

A Pilgrim 016

Using the pattern, cut out enough pilgrim pieces for each member of your family.

A Pilgrim 012

Roll the black rectangle and staple it in place.

Wrap the white collar around the black tube–and staple.

Using embroidery scissors–cut along the line on the pilgrims bonnet.

Print out pictures of your family–I made them all about 2-1/2 inches tall. Cut them out.

Glue the pilgrim hat on the boy pilgrim’s head. Slide the girl photos into the white caps.

Now you’re ready to put your pilgrim together. Oh, and for the babies bodies, I trimmed the black body pieces about 1-1/2 inches–so they were shorter.

Slide the heads between the black piece and the white collar and glue lightly in place. Let them dry for about 30 minutes and they’ll be set for your feasting table.

No need to write anyone’s name on these guys because the kids will love finding themselves on the plate!

Pumpkin Patch Biscuits

I first saw these little do-dads in Taste of Home Magazine and thought, “Oooohhhh…” and then, with it being National Homemade Bread Day–I know, I know, but it IS–I figured these would just about qualify.

They don’t have any of the pumpkin spices that you would expect in a pumpkin bread, but it is nice to know that there is a good dose of vegetables in that little biscuit.

They are soft and flaky besides. Beat that. Oh, yeah and they taste really, really good.

Ask Chompy.

Pumpkin Patch Biscuits

Ingredients

1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup canned pumpkin
1/3 cup buttermilk

Directions:

In a large bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Cut in 1/2 cup butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine pumpkin and buttermilk; stir into crumb mixture just until moistened.
Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead 8-10 times. Pat or roll out to 1-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter–the top of a mason jar works great. Place 1 in. apart on a greased baking sheet.
Bake at 425° for 18-22 minutes or until golden brown. Brush butter over biscuits. Serve warm.
