Stuff That Makes Me Smile

My very favorite “peeps.”

My silly boy immortalized in…cotton—so nobody forgets him. Isn’t he just so CUTE?

Pretty little barrettes on a pretty little ladybug.

The Springy-est colors on the face of earth.

A guy who can dance…anywhere…anytime…for any reason.

A table full of pure heaven. No, there aren’t any left. Sorry.

A girl with her priorities straightened out.

A sweet card from a boy down the road…who shall remain name-less.

Ok, ok–it’s from the artist-formerly-known-as-the-bald-kid.

And lastly–a tiny guy who is perfectly secure in his manliness–when he’s “bein’ the dad.”

What about you? What makes you smile?

Elder Bald Kid

My sweet boy sent us an Easter card and a small stack of pictures. The card was nice, but I needed those pictures. Already, I can see how this fellow is learning and growing…

and finding friends from school…

and finding pals from work…

and finding out who he really wants to be.

This boy of mine will be leaving soon from the Missionary Training Center to the other side of the world. In fact, he said, that the next letter we get will be the last hand written one for awhile, because…

he will be in Siberia. Mail is very slow from Siberia.

Siberia.

Everyone says to me, “It’s really cold there.”  That or, “Isn’t that where they take criminals?”

Apparently, they send some really good guys to this far away place too.

A very special one comes to mind.

~I love you my boy.

Breakfast Burritoes

Simply scrumptious ones, I mean.

We started with fresh cooked tortillas–you know, the kind that are rolled and pressed and stacked and just waiting for some deserving soul to toast them up. However, the precooked ones are fine too.

Make your favorite scrambled egg recipe and set it aside. We love diced ham, or crumbled bacon or sausage in our eggs. It works very well to add at least a handful of shredded cheese–that makes it all sticky and helps it hold together. Very important.

Everyone knows that the real secret to breakfast burrito perfection lies in the folding. So you’ll want to listen carefully.

Spoon about half a cup of the egg mixture to the middle left of the tortilla–spreading it into a rectangle.

Fold the two sides in over the rectangle ends.

This may look a bit tricky, but you can do it. While still holding the sides, fold up the bottom of the tortilla. Notice how the pinky fingers are even involved here keeping everything in place.

Now flip the whole darn thing over to the longer end of the tortilla. And there you have it…

a lovely, compact, hand-held, nearly complete meal. Add a slice of cantaloupe or grapefruit and you are ready for the day.

A simply scrumptious day!

The Hunt

It’s been a long, long time since there’s been a real, live family Easter egg hunt at this place. Yes, we are wearing coats on this beautiful…ahem…spring day. Oh, well…

I’m pretty sure the last time this lawn saw colored eggs, was when all these parents were the little guys.

But the dashing for eggs looks like the same magical fun.

The eggs are “hidden” properly in plain sight…

so today’s itty bittys can find them…

and snatch them up just like their mamas and daddies did…

a million years ago.

There were even a few left behind…for ahhhh….later.

All of this has happened so many times before…

but it still feels brand new to me.

What a lovely day!

Beany’s Karma

Please tell me how it is that Beany–

ancient, wise, stalwart Beany–

big, strong, dog-slayer Beany–

hungry, whining, “let-me-in-NOW-because-I’m-STARVING,” Beany–

can suddenly become so incredibly…dense?

“See, I told you Harriet. Cats are really thick.”
