Baby Birdy Steps

Chompy is learning to stay very still and just wait for those little birdies to come. That’s the big girl in her–and she does it well.

Now, if we could just get the two year old in her not to wait till they flock and then smack the window and  shout, “BOO!” we’d be good.

*sigh*

One step at a time…

Oh Happy Day

This is the day that we wait all summer long for– Fresh Peach Shakes at our favorite Taco place. Oh. My. Word. We get a little nutty with it, to tell you the truth. We’ve found that it’s perfectly ok to have a peach shake for breakfast…lunch…AND dinner. Wonderful even.

These sweet things—made with peaches from the company’s very own orchard—are beyond incredible. And they only make them until the peaches are gone.

So we waited patiently while they made one just for us.

Oh, we were entertained in the meantime with Chompy’s ice cream cone…

umm….adventure. But at last, at last…

the pretty girl gave us our scrumptious peach shake! Ooooh…how will we be able to drive straight? It’s sooo good.

The only thing better than grabbing this thing nice and quick and gobbling it down would be if I could learn to make them at home…

myself.

Oh—do I heard a challenge?

Yeah–I have some peaches to play with. But I’ll be back soon.

heh, heh, heh.

Sweet Candy Girl

Skittles were a brand new candy the year my second baby was born. I ate a ton of them. In fact, I thought they were some kind of fruit group–citrus and berry or something. So when my little Lyndi was born I wasn’t a bit surprised to find that she came with her own fireworks…so to speak. Sugar induced, no doubt…and completely my own doing.

Giggling uncontrollably in the Mother’s Day program and cutting her own bangs the day before family pictures–we never knew what to expect from this one. She’d find any possible excuse for a party, be it Groundhog’s Day or Harry Potter’s Birthday–we simply had to celebrate. Still do, come to think of it.

Happy Birthday this week my sweet Lyndi!!

I’ll bring the Skittles.

Blueberry Streusel Muffin Madness

Blueberry Streusel Muffin

When the kids were little–which was not so very long ago–every now and then we’d buy a special brand of Blueberry Streusel Muffin Mix…a very expensive brand. But oh…it was worth it–for just the perfect crunchy, cinnamony crumbles on top of the most glorious blueberry muffing.

The mix made just enough for each of us to have two. Most of the time we could only afford the darn things for special events, like Christmas morning.

Well, it was a sad day–I’ll tell you–when we found out that they no longer made that particular amazing brand. I’m certain that tears were shed over it, in fact. But guess what?

We don’t have to look for a silly old box mix anymore–because here it is in real homemade life!!

Calloo! Callay! Huzzah, even!

Feel free to go crazy with this one.  Resistance is futile.

Button Bauble Bracelet

If you happen to be an unabashed button freak–like me–then, you, my darling, are about to be very happy. Perhaps even squealing with delight will be in order. Wanna play with all those buttons–you know you have a stash–and have a pretty little bracelet when you’re finished?

I thought so.

First, choose your color pallet. Mine will be pinks, purples and black…because I barely know any other colors exist.  Ask my kids.   :}

I’m using a few newer buttons and a ton of vintage ones because they are gorgeous and they’ve been cooped up long enough. It’s time they went out on the town.

All you need for this lovely project is:

A piece of 1/4 inch elastic–the size of your wrist + 3/4 inches

Some thread– I used embroidery floss because it was the perfect color and, well, I liked it.

Buttons–a little pile of them

First sew your elastic together–

by machine or by hand…either way.

Now the fun part–start sewing on those buttons. Any order. Stacked or alone. Be sure to let them overlap just the tiniest bit so that the elastic stays hidden when you wear it.

Knot each button separately so that if you ever have to replace one–it will be easy.  Keep going around the elastic until the last button meets the first.

Now then, don’t you just have the most adorable bracelet on earth? And just imagine the possibilities–a new bracelet for every outfit…quick and easy Christmas presents…thank you gifts…kids party favors…you get the picture.

And the best part is–quite likely, you didn’t spend one thin dime.

Wait–I think I hear squealing.

And rightly so.
