Snowy Scarf

Finally, we’re getting a bit colder weather around here and it seems to be nudging our sleepy green leaves into turning. Not that I’m begrudging the strange, lovely October sunshine, oh no–but at last it feels more appropriate to begin working on a few little things for…dare I say…Christmas.

A simple double crochet grid pattern can turn into the most luxurious, fluffy, amazing thing–

just by using this crazy yarn.

This stuff feels like you’re crocheting with soft, squishy pipe cleaners.  :}

And I can personally vouch for how warm it will be, as I had to keep moving the project off my lap every 10 minutes or so to keep from over heating! Pretty sure I could warm up some Eskimos with this toasty piece of work.

Which is good, because Autumn seems to be coming…

at last.

Pioneer Day

Maybe everybody everywhere doesn’t have a Pioneer Day to Celebrate…

like we do.

And that, my friends is a crying shame.

I mean, really–who doesn’t need one more reason to eat a barbecued hot dog from a fork?

Or to play another round of croquet?

Or to have a wagon ride through the meadow?

Or to just sit back and watch the summer wind blow in the trees?

You know…like the Pioneers did.

One Rainy Day

After days of rain…

the sun peeked out between all those clouds–for just a little minute. So Lily, Beckham and I rushed over to the school yard at the end of the block. We had the place completely to ourselves…

which meant that I could sit in the car with the doors open and just let them run and play. Yes, yes…I was being Lazy-Bones-Jones but they were happy–I was happy–so all was right with the world.

Then Beck rushed back to tell me something that he totally forgot by the time he got to the sidewalk…

and spied a row of teeny tiny ants–very, very interesting when you’re just 3 years old.

Very…very.  And while he was contemplating the little critters…

Lily ran back to the car with some treasures of her own…

just in the nick of time!

:]

PS–the bald kid tells me–now that he’s left the valley–the rain should clear up soon. He swears it was only here because he and I  love it so much. I guess we’ll see.

Dueling Skies

I swear to you that winter and spring are duking it out right here in our very own yard. No lie–we woke up to this lovely blanket of snow, but by lunch time…

It was as though it had never happened. So I put on some nice, springy capris…you know, to take advantage of the lovely sunny day.

Big mistake. While we were out, an odd thing happened.

Bare legs don’t take too well to all this white stuff.

Then, a nice comfy breeze blew all that coldness away and I could actually see the brave strawberries…amongst all those…ahem…weeds. Off with the sweatshirt and on–again–with the capris…

Or not.

Perhaps it will just be best to just stay curled up indoors with a good book until Mother Nature makes up her mind…

or chooses a winner.

I hope she’ll let us know.

Sheesh.

Springtime Ruffle Hat

I know, I know. The Springtime thing is a bit elusive around these parts (more on that later)–

but by-dang, we’re going to be dressed and ready for it when it does show up.  Lily and Chompy have both needed a new girlie hat and this pretty little thing certainly worked just perfectly.

So the Springtime Ruffle Hat from Annie’s Attic became my busy fingers crochet project while we watched General Conference on TV.  I used my standard–Peaches and Cream cotton in white and by the time all four sessions were over…

Lily’s was finished.

Now, I know full well that both little ladies could end up wearing these pretty Easter hats in another Utah snowstorm…

~sigh…

but we’ll hope for the best.

A bit of chanting couldn’t hurt either.
