This Old House

April and I went on a mini road trip this week–more on that later– and for some odd reason…

I couldn’t stop myself from snapping a picture of nearly every little old house that caught my eye–as we drove past, of course.

I’ve always loved wondering “who has lived there?” and “what was their life like?”

I want to walk through the rooms and touch the walls and see if I can just feel the life the old house has known.

My mom used to tell me that if I actually lived in an old, drafty, hot, ancient house I’d get over my infatuation with them…quick.

I think not.

In fact, I’m certain somehow, that it would be much, much worse.

Who–do you suppose–has looked out this window…

and what did they see?

What do you think? Hmmmm?

~Such a Lovely Day~

If a person is going to celebrate growing just a bit older…

then what better way to spend the day…

than with so many of the things…

and people…

and places that I love…

completely surrounding me.

Ahhhhh….just the right combination of everything…

and everyone.

These people know me so well–

it’s almost…

embarrassing!  :}

But oh…how I love them for it!

It was positively the most perfect, lovely birthday.

Thank you, everyone–family and friends. I’ll keep this day tucked safely in my heart–forever.

I love you.

Things To Love…

right this minute…

A two year old who loves her kitty more than she fears getting an occasional reminder that sometimes pets wear an invisible “do not disturb” sign around their necks.

The ridiculous Blue Jay that keeps coming back–terrorizing all the smaller birds–but lovely to watch anyway in all his enormous splendor. Seriously, this guy is a big as a chicken. He can’t even sit on the bird feeder because he’s too huge. Silly thing.

This gentle little lady who sits patiently till the blue guy leaves and then waits until all the little birds come back–before hopping down to join them. So sweet.

Yesterday’s pretty clouds that rained just enough to give us…

this beautiful rainbow. Do you suppose a pot of gold could be inside that building on the mountain? It sure looks like it to me. :}

That I was smart enough to take a picture of last season’s football donuts from Krispy Kreme, that the new guy behind the counter said he’d never heard of. Hmph.

Dude. Don’t mess with my football donuts!

That we have one of the biggest games of the year on Saturday–a sort of “Holy War,” if you will.

Go BYU!!

There will be NO wearing of red in this house I tell you.

Fight!

Nachos at our place.

WIN!!

Cooking School

I’ve heard about the Taste of Home Cooking School that tours the country and teaches all kinds of amazing stuff–but I’ve never gone before…

tonight.

We–my sister Laurie and I–spent the whole evening watching this cute little gal cook about 10 different dishes using all kinds of yummy ingredients. She made BBQ Chicken Pizza, Pumpkin Whoopee Pies, Chocolate Agave Cake, Raspberry Pork Roast,  and so much more. Dang–it made us so hungry!

They gave away about a million prizes–dishes, cookware, groceries, jewelry…

and about a dozen or so cookbooks. Ooooh…I wanted one of those! These guys even gave away all the food that she made and the dishes that went with them. So much fun.

This lady won a toaster oven or something wonderful like that. Hey, wait…I KNOW her! Congratulations, Alice!

We each received a prize bag filled with recipes, kitchen gadgets and sponsor products. I was just about to take of picture of what was in the bag–when my camera battery died.

Wow.

So much for me being the Taste of Home Cooking School reporter of the year. I guess you’ll just have to imagine the picture of my sister and I having a wonderful time and learning so many new things to cook. Maybe we’ll even show you a few of them soon.

In the meantime–it’s nice to know Papa Murphy’s is still just around the corner.

You know…

just in case.
