The Parakeet Who Was.

When I was a rolly, polly, rubber-doll of a baby, we had this parakeet named Percy. From what I’ve heard he was a friendly sort and let even the scariest of creatures hold him–as shone above. Apparently, we kids could just walk around with a stick or pencil for him to perch on and he’d just sit there like his life was in no way being threatened by the 100 ft. baby.

Yikes.

The story goes, that 1-1/2 seconds after this picture was snapped those sweet, dimply baby paws grabbed up that poor unsuspecting birdy and gave him the toddler version of a one handed bear hug. My mama had to pry him from my grasp before he became “The Parakeet Who Was.”

Fear not. He lived.

Didn’t particularly care for baby-face Nelson any more…but he lived.

I swear. I can prove it.

You see, he went on to star in several family Christmas cards before finally passing on to the big Animal Kingdom in the sky…of causes completely unrelated to the baby grip of death.

But he always liked my big brother the best.

No earthly idea why.

heh.

Bruschetta

Bruschetta

Bruschetta is a pretty little Italian appetizer that whips together in about 5 minutes tops and tastes all marvelous and fancy like you’re channeling Julia Child or something. And it’s quite likely you have the ingredients right there in your kitchen this very minute.

Lucky you.

As you eat this…

close your eyes and pretend you are in a beautiful Italian villa with someone you love…

who is very handsome.

Works for me.

Golden Afternoon

On Sunday afternoon a really peculiar thing happened.

So peculiar, in fact, that some of the braver folk came out…on the roof for a closer look.

The first thing that got our attention was that everything–everywhere– turned yellow–and that’s while we were still in the house.

When we came outside the whole sky was totally yellow…

no matter which way you turned.

Don’t you find that particularly odd?

I do.

One of the kids said, “Ok, this is really freaky…”

eerie even…

you know, like, the end of the world kinda stuff.”

But as you can see–we’re still here. No apocalypse. No Millennium. No end of the world…for now.

In fact, within minutes the yellow sky started to fade away altogether…

and promptly turned…

pink.
