For King and Country

When Dane and the Bald Kid were little fellows, their favorite toys on the face of the earth were these guys.

Oh, they took hours–sometimes all day–to set everything up…

and get everyone in their proper place, you know…

before the Vikings showed up…

and before the pirates attacked.

So this was a totally new experience for Miss Chompy…

sitting there minding her own business with her Duplo blocks and My Little Ponys…

to have this big, nutty guy swoop in with a fire breathing dragon and put all the calm creatures in terrible danger.

  Ok, it’s getting personal now.

Pony Princess Celestia, meet Maid Marion.

Chompy watched intently to see how this knights-and-pirates-duking-it-out stuff actually works.

She didn’t know how she felt about all the sword swinging and painful sound effects, and pretend people dropping like flies…

and the limb lopping and…and…carnage. That just never happens in Ponyville.  Is that a little plastic head I see over there?

Oh, run Chompy, run.  These guys play too rough.

Wait…Miss Chompy–what are you doing? Miss Chompy?

“Dear King Arthur,

We regret to inform you that a giant two headed dragon ate your men. I hear he had a pretty little accomplice. Yeah, sorry about that.

There were no survivors.”

And Dane gets a million dollar fine for corrupting a perfectly decent 3-year-old.

Sheesh.

In The Meantime

Down… Set…

Hike.

Tackle.

Off sides.

Huddle.

Interception.

Touchdown!

We can hardly wait  for real, live, football season to start. Can you tell?

So Much Love

Back from their honeymoon–at last, at last, the kids (oooh…can I call them kids?) came home and invited us to their wedding-gift-opening night.

What may have looked like chaos to some, was in fact, a huge downpour of love, for these two sweethearts. And oh, my goodness–so much love from so many…

dear, sweet, beloved friends and family.

It was sincerely incredible to watch them be so showered on and see them be absolutely delighted. Such thoughtfulness from so many. In the end, I’ll admit, I was nearly speechless…

nearly.  :}

I do have one question though.

Who gave these guys permission to grow up…so fast?

Hmmmm?

Sheesh.

I’ve Noticed Something…

Now that the wedding flowers are all hung up to dry…

and the tuxedo has been sent back to the shop…

and the last of the boy clothes have been packed up…

I’m missing a few things, you know, like crazy singing in the shower–in some strange foreign tongue–early in the morning…

and a guy razor always, always left out for me to put away–at odd times of the day…

and the goofy clothes dropped beside the hamper…ahem–instead of in it.

See that? Not even one single whisker to wash out of the sink. Sheesh.

In fact it’s altogether too quiet and too tidy and too…too…well...girly around here right now.

Of course, I’m really happy for him.

And certainly I’m really proud of him.

But mostly, I’m really, really, really missing him.

Congratulations my darlings–

Happy Honeymoon!
