Peppermint Cream Corn Puffs

Perfect munchie for an evening of “Miracle On 34th Street,” or “One Magic Christmas,” or “Muppet Christmas Carol.” I could go on and on here. Sooo many incredible Holiday movies that we haven’t seen– in, well…a year.

Funny how that works.

If you love peppermint, and popcorn–but don’t like all the old maid surprises that come with real kernal-ly popcorn–then you are about to be saved! No, I mean it. This lovely stuff is crunchy and buttery and salty and then–you add creamy peppermint to it and…

well, all I can say is…

Oh. My. Word.

Here’s how to do it.

First, you pour corn puffs into a big bowl–I used about half the bag.

Then, crush about 20 candy canes–I used the blender so it was nearly a powder.

Melt one package of white chocolate–gently in a double boiler–or however you do it.

Now, mix the candy canes and the white chocolate. Add 1 tsp. of peppermint oil.

Pour over corn puffs and mix until pieces are coated. Allow to set on wax paper covered cookie sheet. If you’re in a real hurry–set it in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes. Store in airtight container or large Ziploc bag.

If I could share a piece of this with you–you’d go right out and buy all the stuff to make it–this very minute. But since I can’t…you’ll have to just trust me on this.

Happy Birthday April!!

~ Oh, and if you’re inclined to do the “Twelve Days of Christmas” for someone special–here’s a lovely Nativity style— sure to warm a few hearts.

{ The Christmas Spirit }

“Born in a stable, cradled in a manger, He came forth from heaven to live on earth as mortal man and to establish the kingdom of God. During His earthly ministry, He taught men the higher law. His glorious gospel reshaped the thinking of the world. He blessed the sick. He caused the lame to walk, the blind to see, the deaf to hear. He even raised the dead to life. To us He has said, ‘Come, follow me.’

“As we seek Christ, as we find Him, as we follow Him, we shall have the Christmas spirit, not for one fleeting day each year, but as a companion always. We shall learn to forget ourselves. We shall turn our thoughts to the greater benefit of others”

Thomas S. Monson

Nativity Story Advent

There’s definitely a ton going on these days– sewing, planning, setting up and stashing away. But in the meantime, I thought you might be interested in this sweet little Nativity Story Advent Calendar that popped up the other day. It’s colorful and bright and ready to be printed off–I suggest card stock–and cut out. I’m thinking of laminating ours and sticking little magnets on the back. That’ll make it easy to use on the fridge.

Whether you use it as an actual advent or just as a lovely way to tell the Baby Jesus story to your family—doesn’t really matter. I think they’ll love it. Find it for yourself—right here:

Nativity Advent

Well–I’m off to string up some lights and decorate a tree. Wish me luck!

{ The Real Christmas }

“If you desire to find the true spirit of Christmas and partake of the sweetness of it, let me make this suggestion to you. During the hurry of the festive occasion of this Christmas season, find time to turn your heart to God. Perhaps in the quiet hours, and in a quiet place, and on your knees—alone or with loved ones—give thanks for the good things that have come to you, and ask that His Spirit might dwell in you as you earnestly strive to serve Him and keep His commandments”

Snowy Scarf

Finally, we’re getting a bit colder weather around here and it seems to be nudging our sleepy green leaves into turning. Not that I’m begrudging the strange, lovely October sunshine, oh no–but at last it feels more appropriate to begin working on a few little things for…dare I say…Christmas.

A simple double crochet grid pattern can turn into the most luxurious, fluffy, amazing thing–

just by using this crazy yarn.

This stuff feels like you’re crocheting with soft, squishy pipe cleaners.  :}

And I can personally vouch for how warm it will be, as I had to keep moving the project off my lap every 10 minutes or so to keep from over heating! Pretty sure I could warm up some Eskimos with this toasty piece of work.

Which is good, because Autumn seems to be coming…

at last.
