Springtime Ruffle Hat

I know, I know. The Springtime thing is a bit elusive around these parts (more on that later)–

but by-dang, we’re going to be dressed and ready for it when it does show up.  Lily and Chompy have both needed a new girlie hat and this pretty little thing certainly worked just perfectly.

So the Springtime Ruffle Hat from Annie’s Attic became my busy fingers crochet project while we watched General Conference on TV.  I used my standard–Peaches and Cream cotton in white and by the time all four sessions were over…

Lily’s was finished.

Now, I know full well that both little ladies could end up wearing these pretty Easter hats in another Utah snowstorm…

~sigh…

but we’ll hope for the best.

A bit of chanting couldn’t hurt either.

Spr-ing…Spr-ing…Spr-ing..

From The Boy…

So, finally we get pictures of my baby boy from the MTC (Missionary Training Center)–and doesn’t he just look like he’s enjoying himself?

It’s so-SO strange to have him about 7 miles away and yet, I haven’t actually spoken to him in a month. He is a lovely little letter writer though and it’s the highlight of the week to get–first his email on Tuesday and then a few days later a real letter in the mailbox.

He’s learning the Russian language really fast–which is very satisfying to him and he’s making some wonderful friends too.  I can send him letters and packages and email whenever I want and it gets to him the same day. So there’s the advantage to living down the street from the MTC— which is good for my silly, achy mama heart.

He leaves for Russia in a few short weeks–so I have to send things while I can. Mail to Russia is very slow and it can take a month to get a letter and 3 months to get a package. That means that if I want him to get a present for his birthday in July, I’ll need to mail it in April–before he even leaves for the country. That’s crazy. But the best news is that when he’s at the airport, he gets to call home.

It will be so good to hear that cute voice again.

Happy Birthday Lynnette!

This Moment…

A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from our lives.

A simple, special, memorable moment.

A moment I want to pause, savor and keep close to my heart.

If you are inspired to do the same–leave us a link in the comments.

Happy weekend everyone.

Lake Front Property

If you’ve been around a while–around this blog, I mean–then you may remember a post about our silly, floody house–that all the kids grew up in. If you need a refresher here’s the very post.

At any rate–I recently found this picture of old Daney-boy doing a heroic dive and slide–on our front lawn–to prove to his posterity that we did indeed survive a couple of pretty terrific floods. What you’re missing is how much of that water was pouring into our basement window at the very same time. After a while we learned to set everything downstairs on 2 x 4’s so when the next down pour came along–it couldn’t mercilessly soak all my stuff—from the ground up.

Well, that is–except my kids.
