The Thankful Heart

“The unthankful heart… discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings!”

Spooooky Skirts

Aaa 077

These Autumn days…

A rain 010

that can’t seem to make up their minds–

A rain 106

cold? warm? rainy? dry? hot? cool? slippers? sandals? and on and on.

A 259

The cool and cold of these days sends me to my fabric stash or to the fabric shop—which is so much more dangerous–to find something lovely to play with.

AAAA 003

The holiday fabrics are always a temptation because I have these sweet dolly babies that are so fun to dress-up. And so I flew downstairs to my “sewing chamber” to contemplate the seasons and…

Aaa 004

came back up with thousands of Halloween skirts for the little ladies.

Aaa 062

I found the free Lazy Days skirt pattern over at Oliver + S to be positively perfect–quick and easy. My kind of project.

Aaa 067

Of course, it never actually occurred to me to ask the Mamas if they even wanted a thousand girlie Halloween skirts. Wasn’t willing to risk them saying, “no.”

Aaa 002

So I will ask you, my friends–

How do you think it will go over when Lily-foo and Baby Chompy…

Aaa 077

wears pirate skirts….to church?

ha!

Counterfeit Foliage

A leaves 032

Ok, ok. I’ll admit. I got tired of waiting for the leaves in the yard to turn and fall. So I made my own. So there.

A leaves 002

I found some basic leaf patterns by googling “basic leaf patterns”…cookie cutters work well too.

A leaves 001

Pin the pattern piece to a doubled piece of felt…

A leaves 003

and cut out two of every fall color you can get your hands on.

A leaves 005

Then sewing two at a time, run a tight zig zag stitch from one end of the leaf to the other. I used dark brown thread on all the colors.

A leaves 008

I liked the effect.

A leaves 009

Now fold the sides of the leaf upward toward the stitching for a 3-D look.

A leaves 018

You can tack them to a ribbon and hang them up somewhere…

A leaves 037

or….you can pretend you’re the wind…

A leaves 022

just waiting to blow and scatter the leaves everywhere.

A leaves 042

Well, you know…until we get the real thing.
