Balloons!!!

We go to the balloons each year like faithful little balloon groupies. There are always a few new ones and a few old faithfuls that we’ve come to know and love.

The tradition has become– everyone who is willing to wake up before the creepy crack of dawn to see the balloons fill up and take off–MAYBE (depending on the weather!)— shows up at the same area of the park each year. We sit around shivering and bundling up in blankets, eating fruit pizza– gallantly made by Nate these days. Thanks Nate!

Once the balloons either all go up, or all stay down we gather up and come home–where a nap is certainly in order.

It’s one of those things that we’ve just done…rain or shine because it’s another chance to be together and laugh our silly guts out. That always feels important.

You know?

A Beautiful View

Ok, perhaps you don’t sense the overall gravity of this situation. It’s positively glorious!!! This, my darlings, is a brand, spanking new window in my increasingly pretty little kitchen!! And the best part is…….

…it OPENS! I couldn’t actually show you that because the window guy said I couldn’t touch it for a couple of hours. Torture–pure torture!!

In case you think I’ve lost my marbles–the previous kitchen window did NOT open. Weird, right? I mean, what if I burned something and there was terrible smoke everywhere?! Of course that would never happen because I never burn ANYthing. Ha. But if I DID, we’d all choke to death without a window that opened.

Well, not anymore buddy boy because this pretty baby opens…and closes…and opens…and closes…and OPENS!!!

I may just faint.

A New Window To the World

First of all you need to understand–this was one NASTY, ugly window.

It was made of big, thick blocks of glass cemented together– that seemed to be all the thing a million years ago.

But wait, that’s not all. It seems the little fellow who built this place decided it would be awesome to paint the thing dark brown. Seriously, Coke bottle brown. Whaaaaat?! We had tried, a few times to scrape the paint off, but 50 years had baked it on pretty solid. You see how well it worked!

ANYway, my sweet daughter arranged for some great, sturdy fellows to come and take out the old one, and put in a new one. These poor guys had no idea before they got here that this is what they’d be dealing with.

They supposed it would take about 15 minutes to remove the old window and it ended up taking 3 hours!

Look at this beautiful modern window they put in!! So not used to all the lovely light pouring through–but it is heavenly.

And wowwww….where did that house come from? I’ve never seen it before! Hahaha. Coming into the century one baby step at a time.

Thanks my dear daughters…it’s so beautiful!
