That Tough Guy

100 Happy Days #6

004

What would a list of happiness be without a picture of my dear, sweet, silly old three legged cat…hmmmm? This sturdy fellow has had a pretty tough old life. As a matter of fact, this guy has been a fighter since he was very young–quite literally–whopping great, big, mean cats out of our yard and sometimes neighborhood, not to mention the dogs, three times his size that are sorry they ever met him. He’s come home with cuts and scrapes and even a completely broken tail one time. He’s been shot with a bebe gun more times than I care to think about–(an angry post that shall forever remain unwritten) and has several nicks in his ears and scars on his head to prove it. He was kidnapped–no, I’m not kidding–and taken nearly 50 miles away and after 9 days, found his way back to us–terrifically skinny and scarred up, but happily home. Then, last year, as you may know, he broke his back leg and was so brave about it, that we didn’t even know for a month. Eventually, he lost that leg, but sincerely–if you saw him, you’d swear he had no idea it was even gone. He’s gained weight since and his coat is thick and shiny again as if he were a youngster…but he’s not.

He has followed me around since he was a kitten and still seems to be happy enough just sitting a few inches away from me–no matter where I am. This very minute, he is laying dangerously close to the office chair I’m typing in, completely content to stay until I go upstairs. He’ll come with me, I know.

I’m pretty sure, this little kitty is the dearest, most loyal, non-judgemental friend I have ever had. I love him so much.

Please, just live forever, Beany.

Could you do that?

It would make me so happy.

Minty Lace

100 Happy Days #5

023

At it again, I’m afraid.

019

This pattern–that you may remember from a few weeks back, was just too much fun.

021

It’s the perfect pattern to work in front of a movie or to ease a few more rows in before bedtime.

010

So soothing and nice that I actually offered to make one for my sweet little expectant niece. Yep…offered.

She wanted a cool, springy mint color for this little girlie who was due in three weeks.

011

Well, I finally finished it the other night and folded it up to wait.

She must have heard that her soft, fluffy blankie was ready and decided to come try it out.

New sweetheart–born just yesterday. Welcome, little one.

Makes us all very happy indeed.

Ancient Hair Beads

100 Happy Days #2

002

Years ago, when my girlies were younger, they wore all kinds of pony tails–up, down, one, two, and side ways. Finally there came a day when they just didn’t use all the kid stuff to hold all that hair back, but for some reason, I just couldn’t part with the beads. I’ve kept them in a pretty jar with a bright pink lid, for years and years.

Now, to my delight, Miss Chompy can think of nothing better than to sit for an hour and string the beads to make a “beautiful necklace for Grammy.”

If only it would fit over my big old head.

A bracelet, perhaps?

Either way…it makes me happy.

That Girl

002

Oh, she’s a funny one, this girl.

She’s shy and quiet and timid and apprehensive and skittish and jumpy and aloof and bored…until…

someone sits down at the computer.

004

Then she will force her way between whomever it is and the keyboard and just stand there…in the way. You can’t really see the screen with a cat in your face and you certainly can’t type with a furry body standing between your arms and you absolutely can’t concentrate with a kitty head nudging into your chin every 10 seconds or so.

The funny part is that she is thrilled with the whole set up. In fact, I’m quite sure that she wonders what my problem is. I can almost hear her saying in her breathy, girlie feline voice, “Oh, don’t mind me. Just keep doing whatever it was that you were doing. I’m completely comfortable.”

007

And why shouldn’t she be?

She runs the place.

Christmas Rewind

008

I can’t, for the life of me, figure out where this season went.

001

We were asked in November to be in charge of the church Christmas party…

006

and by the time we were finished with that…

005

the season was terrifically upon us…

003

ready or not.

006

The tree went up in a whirl wind and though Rhen put all his ornaments on and I put all of my ornaments on–still, it looked oddly bare. I came to the conclusion that even though we had packed the tree quite full with decorations, we were missing Dane’s ornaments and Jillian’s ornaments–that they took with them when they got married.

007

Funny how there were ornaments that I subconsciously waited all year to see again, and then discovered that they are hanging on other trees in other households these days. We had a severe lack of ballerinas and footballs on the tree this year.

002

But I did manage to get a new nativity to add to my growing collection. Forgive me for this one–it is a bit irreverent, but it made me laugh so hard when I saw it that…well, it needed to be mine.

005

Strangely, I keep waking up with a quick shiver thinking, “Ooooh, Christmas is nearly here!” and then jolt to the realization that it has come and gone and I’ll be expected to put it all away in a day or two…for another whole year. How can it be?

004

I’m not ready, I’m not ready, I’m not ready. I’m not finished with candy canes, and stockings and wrapping presents and seeing Christmas lights and looking at baby Jesus. Why, I don’t remember seeing people open their presents and I haven’t even made my special fudge yet. Something is dreadfully wrong with this picture.

004

I want to look at the calendar and find that it’s December 5th and the happiest season of all is still ahead. That would be so lovely. I’m game for a big Christmas season stall out. What do you say?

Maybe we’ll just keep playing the music and watching the shows…

008

and holding the season hostage until I get my fill.

I’m thinking May-ish.

:} Ho, ho, ho.
