My Sweet Advent Calendar

On the last day of November–alllll those weeks ago- haha– April and Lily came over and gave me an amazing surprise.

Ok, yes, they brought me a yummy cinnamon roll that Lily made and some hot chocolate, but the REAL surprise was…..

this beautiful box…

with all it’s mysterious littler boxes….

that April’s family filled up with…

all kinds of magical Christmasy things!

There were candy canes and water bottle stickers and brown sugar fudge…

yummy lip gloss…

a soft, fluffy wash cloth…

and even a ridiculous Perfect Man made of chocolate.

Ohhhhh Aprilllll. Hahaha.

One box held heavenly soft plaid socks…

another had a chocolate marshmallow Santa–that only April and I truly appreciate. Heh.

There were lovely ornaments…

chocolates and more ornaments…

and MORE chocolate!!!

I especially loved the teeny, tiny Mrs. Claus cup ornament.

You know, I always wanted to be Mrs Claus when I grew up.

I’m not even kidding.

Best of all–each of those different boxes came with a sweet littleĀ  note from Hazel, Lily, Beckham, Jacob or April that I will love and cherish forever.

Thank you so much my sweethearts.

You made itĀ like Christmas every single day.

Lily Loves Elephants!!

Ever since Lily went to Cambodia on a service trip…

she has been crazy about elephants!

Their sweet flappy ears…

their funny little toes…

and that crazy trunk!!

So, of course she needs an elephant snuggy for Christmas!!

I hope she loves it!!

Boredom Buster Hotpads

My mom made a potholder for me with a pattern like this and it has always intrigued me. Because I have loads of cotton yarn, once I found the pattern, I decided to try it.

It really is the perfect project to make while you’re listening to a podcast or audio book–which I do a TON–and you still want to keep your hands busy.Ā  It’s made all in one piece in a continuous round. Watch the video and you’ll get it real fast.

One Piece Potholder

This is a great one for the Present Box–if you have one of those.

I used a 5mm or H hook–because I like it.

Go forth and crochet away!!

Dog Bone Pillow Fest

DSC_0269

This is what I spent a few weeks out of my life creating right before Christmas time. Dog Bone Pillows! These little suckers are positively amazing I tell you. They are perfect for tucking behind your neck, or on your shoulder to rest your head more comfortably when watching tv, or reading a book, or as a passenger in a car or bus or train or plane.

I actually inherited my mom’s Dog Bone Pillow and it kept getting swiped by the kids, so this year, I cut a pattern from it and went a little nuts.

Needless to say, all the adults in the family got one for Christmas. Some of the inlaws weren’t even sure what they were. But oh, my…we showed them. Jacob propped his up against the side of the rocking chair and rested his head on it. He woke up an hour later.

I didn’t actually count how many I needed when I started sewing. I just cut out pillows in lots of different fabrics. So in the end, I had about 20 or so left. I suppose they’ll do nicely in the Etsy Shop. Especially if people have ever used one before. It only takes one happy little experience with these magical thingys. Trust me.

They’ll be hooked and then it will be DOG BONES FOR EVERYONE!!

She wasn’t a bit impressed.

The Rainbow Bag

What do you think? Is this just the cutest little girly bag you’ve ever seen?! It may be gray and rainy outside in these parts, but ooooh–such rainbows are being created indoors. It’s truly been the best weather for sitting and playing with my pretty cotton and hooks.

While I was toting it around, working on it in lots of different places, time after time a mom would say to me, “Are you selling those someplace? I would totally buy one for my daughter.”Ā  I say, probably not. But if you crochet, you can get the pattern right here.

006

For now though, I have a couple of little sweetie pies that will each get one for Christmas–of that, I’m certain. Isn’t it positively scrumptious to think of making and gathering and squirreling away treasures for Christmas?!

007

Once the gift bags are made, I may just have the “oomph” to keep going and make a zillion more.

I suspect so because making this one was the most dang fun I’ve had in a long, long time.

With a hook that is.

Sooooo…what do you think?
