Autumn Walk

IMG_0449

Though I haven’t actually moved into “my” cute little house yet, I do go there often just to walk around the yard.

IMG_0431

It’s like I’m trying to convince myself that the trees and bushes…IMG_0454

and limbs and branches and sticks…

IMG_0451

and leaves on the ground…

IMG_0432

and leaves changing color for the fall…

IMG_0438

and the leaves that want to stay the same…

IMG_0436

and the lovely, mulchy, foresty looking ground cover…

IMG_0437and the mysterious berries are alllll…

really, truly

mine.

It’s like some kind of dream.

IMG_0469

And the hornets that seem to be getting braver and braver…

they’re mine too.

IMG_0435It’s beautiful…

and I’m so, so grateful.

Pretty Baby~

Before quilt market, April and I hit on a fantastic idea.

IMG_0473

Since she would have a booth at the Moda area, why not use that cute baby as a living mannequin–so to speak. We could dress her up in pretty little ruffly things made with the prettiest fabric on the planet. SUCH a good idea!

IMG_0420

I scoured the internet and found just the right patterns–four to be exact–for the entire event. That baby would have a new outfit from her mama’s fabric for all three days at the conference and one special dress to wear to the fancy-schmancy black and white formal dinner.

IMG_0422

The teensy tiny catch was that I only had 6 days to make the 4 outfits.

IMG_0492

The race was on!

IMG_0485

1~ The first thing was the easiest. I made the little pants to go with a sweet little red shirt. Sadly, because I made the top last, I don’t have a picture of it.

IMG_0423

2~ Next, was this little summer dress. It was autumn weather her in Utah, but it was warmer in Texas, so this outfit would still work.

IMG_0491

I was nervous that this one would be too wide for this tiny baby girl so I sewed a tie on the front…

IMG_0489

that cinched it up just enough, with a little bow in the back.

IMG_0484

Completed.

IMG_0486

3~ This sweet flowery top…

IMG_0487

with the double tiered, ruffly bloomers. So dang cute!!

IMG_0488

4~ And last of all, the “formal” dress for the Black and White dinner.

I finished the last stitch on the last top–the red one–about an hour before taking April and Jacob and the baby to the airport. Yeah, that’s pushing it, I know.

But it worked…

in the nick of time!

Cheesey Breakfast Casserole

IMG_0356

Don’t you just love those scrumptious meals that toss together in a flash and come out looking like…well, like this? It was a perfectly glorious moment when we pulled this little lovely out of the oven, I’ll tell you. My son said, “When did you make that?!”

Of course, I smiled and said, “Oh, it’s just something that I threw together.” HAAA!

IMG_0350

Threw together, indeed.

One large bag of frozen hash browns. Not the 20 lb I’mfeeding19kidsandalargegrizzlybear bag from Costco–just the normal large bag from the regular grocery store.

Pour it into a big bowl.

IMG_0351

3-4 cups shredded cheese. I used a Colby-Jack mixture.

IMG_0354

Add 1/2 pound or so, of diced ham. I found the cutest little pack of already diced ham in the meat case at the grocery store. I was so excited at the prospect of NOT having to cut it up myself that I might just have squealed out loud right there in the meat department. Scared a few people. It was a special moment.

If you are into onions then this is the time to add them. About a Tablespoon of dried chopped onions or 1/2 cup chopped fresh onions ought to do it.

Toss it all together and put it into a greased 9×13 glass casserole dish.

Whirl 8 eggs in the blender with 1/4 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp pepper. Pour over cheese mixture. Make sure the eggs are evenly distributed in the dish. Top with a handful of shredded cheese if you want it to be extra scrumptious.

IMG_0357

Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.

Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Eat. It. Up.

With The Kids

IMG_0512

While my daughter April went to Quilt Market, in Texas–I got to stay behind (wahhh!) and take care of the kiddos (hooray!). We actually had tons of fun just hanging out, doing homework, annnnnd….

putting together a gargantuan 1000 piece puzzle. I wasn’t sure that they’d care ANYthing about such a huge thing with such teeny, tiny pieces.

But they did. We spent hours and hours sitting at the table talking, and laughing, and finding pieces for each other. Probably helped that it was a puzzle about candy.

It also helped that we had plenty of Cheetos on hand. Speaking of hands, look what I found.

Skeleton Cheetos!!! Whoever heard of such a thing?

IMG_0518

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

As if Cheetos needed to get any better. These ones were white cheddar flavored. Oh, my goodness…YUM.

IMG_0515

This little guys is yelling, “SAVE ME!!”

Too late.

Heh, heh, heh.

Interesting Discovery

IMG_0061

So, the guys have been working on the electrical, and as often happens–one project can easily lead to another.

IMG_0102

So, while they were busy removing some of the old paneling–they found evidence of a previous life.

IMG_0090

50 year old wall paper. Awesome. Awesome.

I LOVE old stuff. But I’m still painting it white.

Thanks, Pinterest.
