Appa!!

My sweet granddaughter had a huge, stuffed Appa (From Avatar- The Last Airbender) on her birthday list. It was like a large pillow of the famous Flying Bison.

I could have gotten it for her, in fact, I almost did.

But then…

I found a pattern and I just couldn’t help myself.

I simply HAD to make it.

I honestly wasn’t sure if it would be a big mess…

or turn out…

incredible.

What I do know, is that it was one of the most fun projects that I’ve made in a long, long time.

Another thing I found out was that when you work really hard on something, for days and days, you run the risk of getting incredibly attatched to it.

Yeah, this one was hard to wrap up and put in the box.

Luckily, I love this girlie even more than furry little Appa.

Annnnnnd…

she ADORED him!!

That always helps.

Happy Birthday Kiddo. I love you.

Press Start

Our sweet Jessica is a lovely member of the AF Symphony and we LOVE going to her concerts!

So it goes without saying that when they had one totally dedicated to video game music–

we said, “Ohhhh HECK yeah!”

Apparently, a boatload of people felt the same.

Before it started the place was

packed!!

They even had sweet little programs that looked like controllers…

a slightly eerie choir…

and a video music trivia game where people won all kinds of retro prizes–

like Lemonheads, and Laffy Taffy and Chick-o-Sticks!

If I’d have only known…I’d have studied ahead.

Every bit of this fun music made a couple of people…

incredibly happy.

Good job Jessica! You’re amazing and we love you.

I’m Afraid It’s Time

We tried to get a sweet, happy picture of all the kitties,  so I could find them homes, but alas…

somehow, they all looked disinterested…

or grumpy…

or slightly feral.

A couple of them finally started to cooperate and looked cute.

I’ve always been able to find homes for these kitties. But there were no takers this time.

So I sent the pictures to the local pet store and they went nuts! Wanted all of them!!  Oooooh, I’ve never done this before. I took a deep breath…

and took them.

It was hard. I love them so much.

Now all I can do is pray every night that the rest will find good, loving homes.

Good-bye my sweet babies.

I’ll miss you.

PS–When I called a few days later, they only had 3 left.

That’s good–right?

2nd PS– Two days later….all kitties have found a home!!

The Little Pirate Princess

Had a bit of drama with this little sweetheart, poor thing.

While running and chasing with her brothers she ran into the door jam and cracked herself in the eye–the brow bone to be exact. The swelling when down to her eyelid by morning and looked so spooky that…

they took to be checked at the hospital and…

even did an MRI to make sure she didn’t injure the bones around her eye.

Luckily, she didn’t.

Phew. It still looks scary–but it’s getting better every day.

Heal fast little one.

We love you.

Molasses Crinkle Cookies

We’ve made these cookies before Halloween every year…

since I was an itty, bitty kid.

My mom used to make them bigger and even flatter so that we could decorate them like pumpkins–with candy corn and life savers.

I even did it a couple of times like that when my kids were little but to be honest..

I like them better without the…ummm…toppings.

And while I’m being brutally honest here, I’ll tell you another thing.

I like them…

almost…

burned.

Almost.

Some like them soft, but for me–

it’s all about the crunch.

Molasses Crinkles

1 cup sugar

3/4 cup butter

1/4 cup molasses

1 egg

Cream together, then add:

2 cups flour

1/4 tsp. salt

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. cloves

1 tsp. ginger

2 tsp. baking soda

If you chill the dough for about an hour before baking, they will be easier to handle. Roll 1 inch dough balls in sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes. Leave on pan a few minutes before moving to cooling rack.
