When It Snows

When the snow really comes down–well, for how much it ever really snows in Utah–

at least when there is enough to blanket the ground and the trees and the bushes…

I love to go out and stand in the quiet and just turn slowly and look at how beautiful it all is.

It’s like a funny, magical, lovely miracle that I am here, in this place at this time of my life. Sometimes I just stand there for a while, allllll alone and let it take my breath away.

But then I remember, the other sweetness is that we’re never, any of us, ever completely alone…

are we?

Shayah In The Snow

I came out to take a video of the beautiful snow coming down and sweet little Shayah came out to join me. Apparently, her Russian constitution makes her very brave in all that snow.

For many years, my Halloween decorations had their traditional places in my house–this one on the window sill and that one on the piano. You know how it works.  Then life changed and we moved a ton–4 times in as many years. If I could even find the decorations–they went wherever they would fit and sometimes that meant leaving them in the storage tubs altogether.

But this October, it was pretty dang fun to sort through Halloween tubs and decide what was mine and what would be better off living somewhere else.  One by one the decorations came out.  As I unwrapped them, each thing seemed to know right where it belonged. This one on the window sill and that one on the book shelf.

Almost like they were just waiting to finally get to this cute little house and help make it truly…

mine.

Autumn In My Own Yard

img_3750

Autumn is my absolute favorite time of year, but sadly, it seems to go by in a flash.

img_3751

I barely have time to see all the changes that are taking place right under my nose,  nevermind absorb them all.

Just as soon as I’m enjoying one lovely transformation of color…

another appears…

and another…

img_3763

Oh, my goodness! How do people live without all of this gorgeous-ness?

img_3749

What I wish, is that the actual season of Fall would last a full three months–with all those colors on the trees…

img_3747

instead of appearing one day and floating to the ground the very next.

Or so it seems.

I suppose the only thing to do is to go outside and crunch around in it more. Perhaps a little each day–instead of sitting and watching it all from the window.

Yeah. I can do that.

All that sawing and banging and fussing around…

I’m pretty dang sure they love the sweet nesting boxes, the cute little chicken-sized door…
